International launches and events

 

The UCL-Lancet Commission on Migration and Health held a series of international and regional launches and events globally in December 2018.   Further events and launches will be held from January 2019 onwards.

January 18th - Chatham House, London, UK - 'Migration and Health: Barriers and Means to Achieve Universal Health Coverage'

February 8th - Beirut, Lebanon - Regional Launch with a focus on Forced Migration and Health

 

December 8th, 13:00-15:00 - Marrakesh, Morocco - Launch 

International Launch at Official Side Event to the Global Compact for Migration

'Health: The Key to Migration's Role in Sustainable Development'

Venue: Oliveraie Suite, Palmeriae Golf Palace, Circuit de la Palmeriae, Marrakesh Morocco

Speakers from the International Organisation of Migration (IOM), the International Rescue Committee, The Lancet, University College London and the UCL-Lancet Commission on Migration and Health will discuss topics such as:

  1. Moving forward with multisectoral collaboration to improve integration of migrant health in all policies to ensure effective sustainable development. 

  2. Mechanisms to create evidence-based indicators to monitor migration and health and ensure transparency and accountability on the implementation of the Compact and the process to report on these indicators at a global, regional and national level. 

  3.  Engaging policy makers and moving forward in the post-Compact phase.

December 10th, 12:00-15:00 - New York, USA - Regional launch 

Join us at our Regional Launch in New York with Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, John Hopkins Centre for Public Health and Human Rights and John Hopkins Centre for Humanitarian Health to discuss particular challenges of migration health in the US context and to coincide with Human Rights Day.

December 12th, 17:00 - Berlin, Germany - European regional launch 

Venue: Langenbeck-Virchow-HausLuisenstraße 58/59, 10117 Berlin

Join us at our European Regional Launch in Berlin, a joint discussion with Médecins du Monde on 'The human right to health for migrants: diagnoses and perspectives' and the presentation of two reports:

The UCL-Lancet Commission on Migration and Health: “The Health of a World on the Move” and the 2018 Observatory report by Médecins du Monde/Doctors of the World (MdM) Germany: “Deprived of the right to health. Sick and without medical care in Germany.”

A panel discussion with representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to discuss:

 

What is the state of migrant health – in Germany, Europe, and globally? What do we know about the relation between migration and health, about barriers, risks, and rights? What possibilities for action can be drawn from the human right to health and global concepts, such as “universal health coverage”? And what consequences should follow from the recently published recommendations of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, which called for improvements of health care for migrants in Germany?
