Launch of the Latin American Regional Hub
On 3rd March 2020 a research initiatives workshop and policy roundtable was held in Lima, Peru. This focused on Migration and Health in Latin America, and was organised by the Lancet Migration: global collaboration to advance migration health, the CRONICAS Centre of Excellence in Chronic Diseases at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, and the Pan American Health Organization’s country office in Peru.
The event was comprised of a full morning workshop on challenges and opportunities on research on migration and health in the Latin American region and an afternoon closed policy roundtable, which focused on health system response to migration from Venezuela. This event also marked the launch of the Latin American Regional Hub of ‘Lancet Migration: global collaboration to advance migration health’.
Panel discussion to mark the start of Lancet Migration
On 5 February 2020 we held panel discussion and event in London to mark the start of Lancet Migration: global collaboration to advance migration health. Speakers from The Lancet, World Health Organization, International Rescue Committee, International Organization for Migration, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, University College London, Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Columbia University, and Médecins Sans Frontières joined us. Past activities
Building on the UCL-Lancet Commission on Migration and Health a series of policy and public engagement activities were organised in collaboration with local, regional and international partners between December 2018 and January 2020.
Policy engagement
The Commission organised a series of global policy events collaboratively with other organisations, many around the priority theme of migrant-inclusion in universal health coverage, including:
UN Global Compact for Migration Intervention, Morocco - December 2018
Organiser of official side event and speaker at the main inter-governmental panel. The panel presentation with IOM, WHO, MSF, IRC focused on ‘Health: The Key to Migration's Role in Sustainable Development.
Universal health coverage and migration policy event and roundtable, Chatham House, London - January 2019
This policy roundtable brought together forty experts from academia, policy and practice to focus on global challenges and opportunities for migrant-inclusion in universal health coverage. The panel discussion event held before the roundtable had speakers from WHO, IOM, PHE, the Lancet and the Commission. Both were co-organised with Chatham House.
1st WHO Expert Meeting on Migration and Health, WHO, Geneva, Switzerland - February 2019
This meeting of over 30 global experts on migration health input into the final draft of the Global Action Plan on the health of migrants and refugees
Official side event at the World Health Assembly, Geneva, Switzerland - May 2019
The side event was a high-level panel discussion focused on Universal health coverage and migration in different national contexts. The Commission Chaired the panel, and also spoke alongside five ministers of health. This event was co-organised with WHO.
UN General Assembly Official side event, New York, USA - September 2019
This side event co-organised with WHO, IOM and member states focused on promoting equity in access to Health Services with Financial Protection.
In 2019 the Commission also inputted into the consultation processes of the UN High Level Meeting on UHC, via advocacy processes at the UHC 2030 multi-stakeholder meeting and submitted 'Key Asks' to the UN High Level Meeting.

A series of regional policy events the Commission co-organised over the last year with national and regional partners, focusing on regional migration health policy priorities, such as:

UK Parliamentary Policy Roundtable on Improving Migration Health Global Governance, London - May 2019
This roundtable co-organised with APPG Global Health and brought 30 key stakeholders together in the Houses of Parliament.
